Best PS3 Exclusive Games Of 2009

By Andy | March 5, 2010

2009 was an excellent year for video game rental and it marked the arrival of the PS3 as a true gaming force after two years of iffy releases. The platform-specific exclusives overshadowed those of the other consoles and started to show the true power of the Cell processor and the kind of awesome games it could produce. The following are just three of 2009’s best PS3 games to rent.

Infamous InFamous

This PS3 exclusive open-world action game put you in the shoes of Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger caught in the centre of a devastating explosion in Empire City. As well as the beautifully realised and chaotic city that acts as your sandbox playground, the game gives you some powerful electrical abilities that you can use to bring order back to the city. This is now a great cheap PS3 game with its fantastic super-hero origin story and interesting moral choices worked into the game play this is an excellent 12-hour campaign that’s a perfect length for a game rental.

uncharted 2 Uncharted 2

Garnering many game of the year awards for its superior storytelling and fantastic action set-pieces, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an exemplary videogame that showcases the power of the PS3. Video game rentals and sales struggle to keep up with demand as everybody wanted to follow Nathan Drake on his search to discover the true fate of Marco Polo’s missing fleet. This premise sets up a globe-trotting adventure that has you sneaking through an Istanbul Museum, fighting through a war-torn city and trekking up the snowy slopes of a Tibetan mountain.

As well as an improved shooting engine the exploration and climbing mechanics are second to none, with the visual awe of the surrounding scenery producing vistas equal to any Hollywood blockbuster. Uncharted 2 is an astounding single-player game that’s akin to renting out the finest action movie of the year – only you’re in control. The multiplayer is worth a try but adds up to little more than a brief diversion from the awesome single-player experience.

Killzone Killzone 2

Released early in 2009, Killzone 2 was a visually amazing game that delivered on all the promises made prior to its release. It has a strong multiplayer component that still worth diving into after 12 months, but its campaign really shows the strength of the visuals and what modern videogames are capable of.

Taking the fight to the Helghast threat means you’ll be taking part in some epic pitched battles and the storyline will keep you on the edge of your gaming seat with some interesting twists and turns. The dark greys and metallic hues create an atmosphere that really draws you into the battle for Helghan and its brief length makes it especially appropriate for a video game rental.
