This is a good game, but it's not great. Not by a longshot. Basically, you control Harry through a linear world in the style of an FPS (with rudimentary RPG/Action adventure aspects), battling wave after wave of death eaters, snatchers, acromantula and dementors. You have an arsenal of spells at your call and Ron and Hermione are never too far behind. The plot stays pretty much on key with the film of its name, but you will find very odd and plot defying additions here and there (big nuclear power plant anyone?). The most obvious of these are the sidequests. At three points throughout the game, the plot will stop and you will have to complete three side quests (nine in total). These range from freeing prisons from the Ministry, being ambushed by Death Eaters in a secluded area and making your way through a Dragon's cave. Now, these will probably either get on your nerves or really frustrate you. Some are ridiculously easy, some don't have clear goals and then there are the two or so that are actually hard. And not good hard. Stupidly annoying hard. They're a diversion from the main quest and they very much feel that way. They also make zero sense in context of the narrative. But, at the same time, if you like the gameplay, there's no reason you wouldn't like these. Since, they are just the game. On the point of gameply, this is a first person shooter, and it is very linear. There is no Hogwarts, and very little exploration. There are collectables. Throughout the world are scattered Daily Prophets, Quibblers and Potterwatch passwords (as well as Deathly Hallows symbols which apparently no one on the whole internet can completely find - I got 5/10). I actually really enjoyed these things, since they give little details about the war. The Potterwatch programmes are especially entertaining. Apart from finding these however, there is no leaving the beaten track and, unfortunately, back tracking is also somewhat of an issue. The aformentioned power plant is visited three times, and it remains virtually untouched throughout. You're given a wheel of offensive spells to use, as well as protego and expecto patronum. They all have different uses (petrificus totalus immoblises, confundo makes the enemies fight for you, expelliarmus is like a sniper shot, wingardium leviosa lifts things, impedimenta is rapid fire, confringo blasts things away and expluso...well I'm not sure. I never had any use for expulso). However, as fun and interesting as all these spells are, I found myself rarely deviating from the most basic spell Stupefy. It's one of the fastest, most quick fire and most powerful spells in the game. It hurts everything, head shots well and is your default spell. Honestly, changing spells was enough of a hassle that I rarely changed. Effectively, Stupefy is broken. You're also given four different potions that you can throw for different effects, and although these are fun (peruvian darkness powder especially) they again take a second seat to Stupefy. That said, you will use Protego alot, and dementors are very common so Ex. Patronum is also common. In short, the game is fun enough and long enough that it can easily hold the attention of younger gamers and harry potter fans, but for everyone else, you probably won't get much out of besides an easy 100 gamerpoints. P.S. On that note, to 100% the game you need both an XBOX live connection and KINECT. This pissed me off since I have neither and I wanted to 100% the game. Then again, I couldn't finish the game on hard (you mostly have to spam protego and hope for the best since the death eaters are brutally powerful and numerous) so I wouldn't have gotten all the achievements anyway. Still, stuff like that annoys me. They fix this in the sequel (as well as making stupefy less broken, in fact almost redundant).
